Cone penetrometer testing, or CPT, is an alternative to traditional SPT borings as a means of more detailed characterization of soil stratigraphy. The test method consists of pushing an instrumented cone-tipped rod into the ground and measuring the resistance of the soil along the tip and the shaft of the instrument. The measurements are correlated to soil types and other soil properties to provide a continuous soil profile over the sampling depth. Since no samples are obtained, this method is used concurrent with conventional SPT testing or where their exists other subsurface data and experience. CGC Geoservices can provide CPT testing with our specialized rig.
